The Strategic Planning Process
In November 2024, the newly named president of the University of 山ּSystem, Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., gathered with the chancellors and the Board to chart the path forward for Nebraska’s only public university. The goal: At a time of great change in higher education, lay out a vision for what the future should look like for the University of Nebraska. From that work has emerged a plan for growth and success across the four-campus University of 山ּSystem, mapping to five key pillars. Dr. Gold is now engaging faculty, staff, students, administrators, and others in conversations about the University’s future.

The University of Nebraska's strategic plan is built around the “odyssey to extraordinary” on which our University has embarked. There is no doubt that the University of 山ּis a very good university—an excellent one, in fact. But we are at an unprecedented time in our university’s history, and excellent is no longer enough. This strategy takes us on a transformative journey for our university, designed to guide the University of 山ּfrom an excellent institution to a truly extraordinary one. Together, as a united university community, we can embrace change with optimism, building on our strengths and drawing on the deep well of talent ready to lead NU into its next chapter.
